A Stroll Through Guatemala
Managing in the lower leagues of England is often a challenge, but the benefits are rewarding, winning the Champion’s League with Burton Albion, beating Man Utd 3-0 at Old Trafford whilst managing Aldershot, you KNOW you’re a good manager when this happens.
Too many of the stories in the lower leagues end up in obscurity, battling it out until 2035 in League One, only to gain promotion and get relegated again straight away. Hopefully this mini-scout trip around Guatemala will help you sort these worries out, and boost your league position a bit too…
Gonzalo Antonio Romero
Some of you may have heard of this guy already, if you were a frequent visitor of the Throw In player section a few month ago, I plugged him like crazy.
A goal machine, to put it simply 7 goals in 10 matches, even when 3 of those games were on the right wing is nothing short of incredible. Whilst his dribbling is poor, his crossing ability and first touch are exquisite. He’s a danger man from set pieces, his freekick taking should rack up a fair few goals in the lower leagues, whilst his penalty ability is nothing short of superb.
He may be a bit old for the Premiership, but for any league below, or even for backup, he’s an absolute gem. He’s willing to drop as low as clubs in the conference if you can meet his wage demands, money shouldn’t be a problem, as at the start of the game, he’s absolutely free.
Club: Municipal (GUA)
Position: MR/ML/MC/AMC/AMR/AML/ST
Sale Value: Free at start of game.

Pablo Sebastian Melgar
More unknown than his predecessor in this article, Melgar is every bit as impressive, but in an entirely different way.
Whilst only 26, he posseses the stats of a world class full back, with his marking ability superbly standing at 20, at the start of the game. He’s Mr. Consistent for my ever improving Woking side, becoming the captain of the club, turning in 7+ performances nearly every week, and an average of 7.40 across the season.
Again, like Romero, he’s lethal from set pieces, with his corner taking ability at 16, yet his free kick’s standing at only 4. Weird. He’s great at penalties though, and can score screamers from way outside the box, so we’ll forgive him, yeh?
The smaller clubs may not be able to afford him, but if your in need of a defender, look no further than Pablo Sebastian Melgar, for any position across the back. A steal at only 250k.
Club: Aurora FC
Position: DL/DC/DR
Sale Value: 250k

Paulo Cesar Motta
The youngest of the Guatemalan contingent, standing at the young age of 23, Paulo Cesar Motta is one of the most consistent goalies I’ve ever came across. I’ll not blab on about his stats, as that will start to get boring now after the first two, and you can clearly see them yourself (unless your Stevie Wonder, like) but all I’ll say is the smaller clubs defiantly won’t be able to get him, as he costs a mammoth (lol) £675k, still very good for a keeper of his standard, however.
Club: Aurora FC
Position: GK
Sale Value: 675k

Freddy William Thompson
Many will know of him, he was a legend on FM2005, and he’s every bit as good for the lower leagues on FM 2007.
Whilst again being reasonably young at 24, his stats reflect a more able, mature defensive midfielder, rather than one that runs about for 90minutes, tiring himself out needlessly. Again, the lowest of the lower clubs may not be able to afford him, but if you have the money, 325k for a marvellous defensive midfielder such as himself should not be turned down.
Club: Comunicaciones
Position: DMC
Sale Value: 325k

Israel Donis
Another older one, Israel Donis will most likely be available to the lower clubs, as he costs a minimal 50k. Whilst not being as technically able as his Guatemalan friends, he still posseses the correct attributes to be a great centre back, with his heading standing at 18.
He’s also a danger from corners too, scoring 7 goals for my Woking side, all headed goals from corners. On the older side at 31, but experience is great, yeh?
Club: Municipal (GUA)
Position: DC
Sale Value: 50k

Eddy Daniel Ortiz
One of the best bargains in the game, in my opinion, Eddy Daniel Ortiz is an absolute must buy for any club outside the Premiership, and even some inside, at only 1k.
His marking ability is brilliant, and is yet another danger from penalties, all these Guatemalan players seem to be good at them, for some reason. His passing and heading ability are decent too, and heading combined with 19 for jumping, will equal a very good defensive partnership with Israel Donis.
He, like Donis supplies a fair few goals from corners too.
Club: Municipal (GUA)
Position: DC
Sale Value: 1k

Carlos Fernado Figueroa
The most technically able of the imports, Figueroa posseses great technical attributes right across the board, with 17’s in all the right areas to make a superb AMC, dribbling, passing, finishing, long shots, you name it, he can do it to a great standard.
Even the Premiership clubs should consider a look at super Carlos, as I believe he’d fit right in with the Premiership sides, due to his flamboyant attacking play.
Willing to drop to the conference yet again, and being available at a fantastic 50k. Another brilliant bargain.
Club: Municipal (GUA)
Position: MR/MC/ML/AMR/AMC/AML
Sale Value: 50k

There’s a lot more available too, if you care to take a look around, the squads are bulging with talent, and it’s quite a wonder how these players are not so well known in real life. Have a look around, these are only the best, there’s so much more out there.
Little note – I’ve edited the database on here, to make Woking have a lot more money than they usually do, so I can test these players out in the lower leagues. Please refrain from moaning, as this article took quite a while. I may upload my save, as I’m now into the Champion’s League with them, I’ll get back to you on that one though.
Little note Part 2 – Make sure you retain all Guatemalan players whilst setting up your game, otherwise some of these players will not appear.
